Guests attending the New York Botanical Garden's Conservatory Ball last Thursday were treated to a glimpse of the Aloha State's natural beauty as actress Sigourney Weaver arrived in a custom-made gown by native Hawaiian designer, Manaola Yap.

The couture dress has already made celebrity news headlines with coverage in Town & Country, People and Daily Mail.

According to a media release, the dress was inspired by nature elements found in the New York Botanical Garden and the beautiful collection of native Hawaiian plants vividly displayed throughout the new Georgia O'Keeffe: Visions of Hawaii exhibition.

Manaola chose a mint green fabric for the dress, which he says represents "nature, growth, and abundance" and a unique silhouette inspired by "19th monarchy mixed with traditional Hawaiian tapa design and contemporary modernism".

The opportunity to dress Weaver came about through Manaola's upcoming participation in the New York Botanical Garden's "Celebrate Hawaii" Fashion Weekend (July 28-29).

He'll debut an exclusive couture collection inspired by the natural beauty of the NYBG.

The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau has partnered with the New York Botanical Garden to offer cultural programming for the O'Keeffe exhibition, on view now through October 28.

On select weekends throughout the summer, NYBG, in collaboration with HVCB, will host "Celebrate Hawaii Weekends" featuring Hawaiian cultural ambassadors, artists, designers, and musicians for an exceptional array of programming that showcases the time-honored traditions and cultural heritage of the Islands.
